Been talking with various union organization folks a lot lately, and I've learned a ton of things about how unions work that I (as someone who's never been involved with unions) didn't know, and had never even considered might be possible. Short thread:

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? Kidlit and middle grade graphic novels are the best selling kinds of comics and it’s not close. People like me vastly outsell cape stuff. The median comics reader is a 12 year old girl.

It's been interesting and very humbling to see how few options there are for 2D animators in the US. For years I was able to quickly find work in random pockets of the industry. But after being at one company for over a decade and jumping back into the job market, I find that things are pretty dry.
