With UK universities slashing budgets and doing redundancies left and right, I am really worried about the survival of many of the digital projects that were funded in the past decade or so, many of which were already a miracle that they were being maintained after all this time.

If the UK is actually under direct threat why are our ships often thumbing their nose at countries on the other side of the world? Do we really have to cut healthcare so our guys can do jollies?

First thing I've heard of this mysterious Al Carns saying is that the UK could find itself in conflict with an adversary in "some shape or form". Wow, better cut the entire welfare state then!

Not that it matters, but I doubt Marx would have been in favour of cutting welfare spending in order to fund military adventures abroad.

It's pretty disgraceful that there has been absolutely no mention of this from the Prime Minister. It's increasingly clear that some attacks, correctly, warrant disgust, emergency measures and days of media coverage. Others seem to be met with silence.

i know it's a total lost cause but i'm checking the news and i'm seeing absolutely nothing from our prime minister on what's happening in iran or belfast. zero leadership, nowhere to be found, doesn't even pretend to try to do anything to prevent conflict.

Why is The World At One reading out Rupert Lowe's posts on the Northern Ireland attack, at the start of the bulletin? He leads a party that is polling at about 3%. This is not about "censorship": it's about the choices media outlets make concerning which voices to amplify.

I’d add: if you have read The City & The City, then you’ll be familiar with the concept of “unseeing”: things people have trained themselves to not see, not recognise and not understand, even as they are happening right in front of them.

This is a great read. EVs have many benefits, but the goal should still be reducing overall car dependency. When I'm biking or walking, an EV poses the same risk to me as any other car -- and in many cases, a *greater* risk because of the size.

The British media has been primed for this for decades. Absolutely champing at the bit, pushing every racial scare panic they can. I ask this: if the British press's aim was to create ethnic conflict and trigger fascist reactionary street violence, would they be doing anything differently?
