by Graham Wroe As 2025 draws to a close, it's good to review what TelltheTruthSheffield.org has achieved in the last 12 months. It's been a year of steady growth for the blog, with increasing numbers of subscribers (if you aren't one yet, please click the link!) and viewers. The year has been dominated by the Genocide in Gaza, as most of the most-read posts reflect (see below).

I have replied as follows to a letter in the Yorkshire Post accusing me of being a doomsayer. Dear Editor Neil Bryce accuses me of being a doomsayer (Yorkshire Post 13/12/25). My motivation for writing about climate change is not to frighten people, but to do the job the media is currently failing to do, which is to inform them of the urgent need for Governments to act to reduce consumption of fossil fuels and meat.

by Dr Karine Knor In 2019, supported by all Parties, the Government declared âa climate and ecological âemergencyâ. But any âemergencyâ response has been woefully inadequate. When we compare this to the time of the Covid pandemic, also declared as a public health emergency, a year later, and we remember the Prime Ministerâs recurrent âaddress to the Nationâ alongside âexpertsâ, the difference in response to the two âemergenciesâ appears even more stark.

by Darcy Whaite We are approaching the season of winter festivities and gift-giving, a time when grown-ups often enjoy gifting picture-books to the youngest members of our circle. I have been looking at the best of this yearâs crop for those relevant to the difficult times we are living through. Talking with young children about subjects such as climate change and biodiversity loss, racism and intolerance, or feelings of alienation and social anxiety is inherently difficult and must be handled with care.

News from Sheffield Defend our Juries 29th November was the United Nations International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people since 1977. As expected, COP 30 was another massive let-down. Every year I try to tell myself, perhaps this year will be different, but after 29 failed COPs I really shouldn't be surprised that we've had another one. It's time to completely change the COP system, firstly by excluding the oil lobbyists, secondly by removing the need for 100% agreement, thirdly by ensuring decision-making is based on the science, not the opinions of those attending and fourthly by giving those most in danger from climate catastrophe, especially indigenous people, far more time at the microphone.

Biodiversity Loss and Shifting Baseline Syndrome
By Darcy White Over the course of my life, Iâve had several stark wakeup calls about the profound loss of biodiversity we are facing. One was about 25 years ago whilst on holiday on the remote Llyn Peninsular in north Wales. Another was this summer whilst holidaying in Dumfries and Galloway, on the south-west coast of Scotland. In each place I experienced what felt like a throwback to my childhood in rural Suffolk during the late 1960s and 70s, amidst an abundance of wildlife.
