A couple of lemons hanging from a branch. Done from memory. Not bad for my firs time painting lemons. They even look a bit round, which pleases me.

First time I've ever gotten the salt-on-wet watercolor technique to work. Indanthron blue wash with off-white stars created by dropping coarse kosher salt on the wet (but not pooling) painted surface.

Big floating fantasy flowers—yellow, multi-petal transparent flowers with red edges and metallic gold stems and stamens. Big and flamboyant. Because that makes me smile.

A small watercolor of sweet violets and dandelions. Not too good, to be honest. Also some tiny M birds in the blue sky. Lamali handmade paper watercolor journal, mixed pallet. I have also discovered that this paper is too soft for masking fluid. By me (Kat Richardson) March 20, 2026

Some dried fennel twigs with their dried flower clusters and seed heads on long brown stems in front of a green and brown wash. This was one of the first times I've worked with very fine brushes. Not great. But it looks like I remember.

First time I've ever drawn the base sketch of a watercolor instead of tracing an existing picture, or just going without. (I really struggle with drawing.) Not perfect, but a step forward, I think.

Five months in and still looking for work. Game writing would be great, but I've also got 30 years software QA management experience with waterfall and agile. So, if you need someone who can write with a strong tech background and can work with teams across multiple continents, I might be your guy.

I learnt a new word of Hookland dialect today – wodwak. It's used to describe the sensation that a wood or even a specific tree is watching you. That moment when your psychic skin won't let you deny that bark-browed eyes are upon you. –

Experiments with how watercolor reacts to water drops and alcohol drops applied before, or after paint. It appears that alcohol draws pigment in as it soaks into paper, while water creates boundaries of flow defined by the degree of wetness.

A sightly underwhelming watercolor by me of yellow laburnum blossoms. The flowers are OK, but I'm very disappointed in my leaves. Not very realistic—that's OK—but the cranky trefoil leaves annoy me. Why can I only paint autumn leaves?

I decided to mess around with big wet bleeds of blue, green, and brown, with a little touch of red to see what happened. It's messy and out-of-focus, but it seems to be a landscape. Sorta. I guess I like it... but maybe not.

TCM picked up Warners stock of Bugs Bunny cartoons! Any one else remember Saturday morning cartoons. And if you got up early enough you could watch the farm report that proceeded them. The most important lesson. You can learn at that age. Never wake a sleeping adult unless there’s fire or blood.
