My passport came back correct with the gender marker changed! My previous passport expired and was misplaced in a move (probably buried in a box somewhere) so I reported it lost as well. I applied, expedited, on 7/9. Thanks to @erininthemorning.com for all her reporting on the whole passport case.

I filed the application for an (expedited) passport renewal along with the gender marker change on July 9. Today I got the notification that the application was 'approved' and is in the mail... that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to come back with an "F" on it, but I'm hopeful.

I know I should probably stick with sci-fi for my follow up novel, but my next novel outline has begun to coaslesce into something a lot less high-tech and a lot more "Twin Peaks" 👀

Writers, does the day of the week actually matter when self-publishing? Or is this just more overthinking it?

I needed to read a book exactly like this several decades ago. One where the relatable overly-anxious nerd has a midlife gender epiphany halfway through, directly on the page. There's not a lot of trans lit in general, and even less that first plays with the mentality of the tragically oblivious.

Yes! Not their sexuality, but their gender. My main character starts out PAINFULLY oblivious to the gender dysphoria driving them, performing all kinds of confounding mental acrobatics to avoid confronting it. But at a certain point it becomes impossible to ignore.

My WIP started in 2011 as a sci-fi romance playing with the MPDG trope, inspired by Eternal Sunshine, Scott Pilgrim, and The Matrix. Years later I finally figured out my gender stuff and realized how deeply trans my story had always been. I revisited to give it the ending it always needed!
