We hope Chancellor Aviles-Ramos continues to stand by the policies that protect NYC kids even as Adams makes ridiculous statements. The time to stand up for all our kids is now - particularly as huge cuts to ELL programming are threatened as well.

A great article that captures the many concerns with the two boro president appointees / future direction of the board (and disappointment in Mark Levine) - even as parents are thrilled with the overturn of the anti-trans resolution.

We are just a group of tired parents who want to see positive change for ALL kids in this city, and we are early in our efforts, but we whole heartedly endorse Mamdani for Mayor. We hope everyone who can vote gets out there in November to send a clear message that we want to go forward.

We look forward to keeping a close eye on CEC D2 but also expanding to help push other CECs to do right by all kids - supporting high quality education and schools where every student is safe and accepted.

The anti-trans resolution that caused all the attention on D2 CEC in the first place has been repealed. Whether Mark Levine’s appointees will vote for anything else progressive or will side with PLACE for inequality (as Sam Lo’s social media posts imply) and defunding remains to be seen.

Mark Levine’s office says that they have asked Sam Lo - one of their appointees - to resign after seeing some of his public statements on social media. These appointments matter to parents - why didn’t they any due diligence before? What if Sam Lo refuses to resign?

Interesting timing! Craig Slutzkin (the disappearing and reappearing PLACE officer also on CEC2…) abstained from voting on a resolution to support trans students. So guess it’s also back to Maud politics for him?

CEC 2: July Meeting Update - off to a great start: CEC 2 Member Allyson Bowen killed the vote on a resolution to affirm that all immigrant students in are welcome and safe in our schools *and* that ICE is not welcome. Always a great look to be supporting ICE and not kids Allyson!

We support local news @hellgatenyc.com and @thecity.nyc (and hope they cover more education issues!) and not the ‘local’ papers happily regurgitating white supremacy talking points.

65% of Canadians voted - parents of NYC we can get more than 10% of us to vote! Let’s get rid of moms of liberty supporters who think they are above basic rules such as “showing up”, “staying for the whole meeting” and “voting on resolutions”. The majority of those on the D2 CEC have demonstrated that in addition to everything else, they don’t care about the rules or showing up to vote. Why does the CEC D2 president continue to bend over backwards to accommodate? Everyone should be offended by this behavior.

We didn't put out a press release because we are just regular parents and aren't funded by Republican donors. But this is unacceptable. Someone other that the DOE needs to run these elections.

CEC Voting is open but also not! The DOE had to take down the site because it had candidate errors and some people reported being able to vote for more than one candidate! Oops. But this is DOE error not a threat to democracy. It will get fixed and we will vote.

Excited for voting in NYC CEC elections to start tomorrow! We’ve got a great slate of candidates for parents - candidates that will come to meetings and listen! Candidates that care about racial equity and academic rigor and letting trans kids be kids. We can do it all.

We also believe that all kids can and should be challenged to excel in school. This isn’t a zero sum game. We can value and support all students while improving rigor.

We have a lot of priorities but we believe all kids matter and should receive the support they need to thrive in school. And all means all: students who are culturally, racially and economically diverse, LGBTQIA+, have IEPs, live in temporary housing, or are learning English for the first time.
