🌱Pot life 3. The shed. Formerly a domain of haphazard organization and much foul language. Now, after a summer reorg, it holds the potted dahlias and hostas. Unheated. In the dark.

🌱Calla got swole. “I SHALL NOT BE CONTAINED!” Yeah yeah buddy… let’s get you a bigger pot, eh?

🌱Pot life 2. The unheated greenhouse. Lined with bubble wrap. We’re not at the space and time where we use the greenhouse for growing winter crops just yet. Yet. Until then, it serves to store the potted roses this year.

🌱Pot life. The tender plants in pots that are the most at risk, spend winter in an unheated garage. There are lights on timers. And while we do have heaters, we don’t use them… Well… when I’m sitting and potting up at the table, I’ve been known to plug one in. Just to help them adjust. 😉

🌱One week before. Dahlias 8’ tall. Mums still feral.

🌱Tucked up for the winter. They’ll survive rather well on this unheated patio. Stayed in flower all last winter. Gets a chop come springtime.

🌱It’s that time of year again…

🌱Salvia uliginosa or bog sage. As many of the summer and autumn nectar sources grow scarce, this unassuming plant takes care of the hummingbirds for us. And being rather tall, it wafts with the slightest breezes.

🌱Mahonia “Soft Caress” in bloom. Still a wee thing in a pot. And no nasty spiky spiny pokey leaves.

🌱Camellia “Little Pearl” A new to us camellia this year. Purchased from Nuccio’s directly after the Garden Manager’s Southern California sojourn.

It's mum season! A bouquet of mixed flowers and greens from the garden, mums in a two part vase, and a bloom of little pearl camellia. 🌱

🌱The mums on the east side raised bed. Wild, unkempt things left to their own devices from what was once purchased as “show mums”. They’ve gone feral.

🌱Part of the annual migration of pots. The 2 westside raised beds have been cleared. Pots of iris, lilies, day lilies are sitting in the bed… ready for a hoop tunnel of frost cloth. These are earmarked for replanting the HellBed next spring.

🌱 One of the abutilons. Flowering maple. We also have a variegated one. Maple shaped leaves. Blooms often called “Chinese lanterns.” Ours are in large pots. They get to over 6’ but I do hedge them down in summer. Get cut back hard in early spring. Overwinter on covered porch. Good doers.

🌱The view outside to the south from under our covered patio. The south and west sides are open, but will be covered in with frost cloth soon. Until then, I can sit here with my coffee while it rains. Uh… my chair is under cover. That other chair is for the cat… if/when the sun shines.

🌱Roses in November? Yes… but technically I took this picture in October. These blooms are still going on. In the rain…

🌱 The camellia show has begun. Let’s see if the extra water in August and September helped with bud formation. Uh… not this one. This one does just fine. But Yuletide is looking much better.
