astoundingly good point Laurie. this extends to printing, as well. how can we prove, as consumers and publishers of books printed in countries with poor labour protections, that no forced labour, labour exploitation, or dangerous employment practices are happening at our printshops?

Which is saying a lot because I DON'T LIKE AI. I just like less the fact that for so many creators our solidarity and willingness to make a fuss to change things ends at... ourselves?

The events industry has a very high risk for modern slavery in general, as do merchandise supply chains. Bootleggers dont care to check their shit and a lot of independent artists don't know how, but I'd personally rather have an AI keychain than one made by a child or indentured person

i think about this all the damn time and i beg the rest of you to do the same. research your supply chain! campaign against AI and extend that energy to other destructive capitalist excesses too.

Shimmering through the darkness 🦑✨️ This long-armed jewel squid (Stigmatoteuthis dofleini) was observed at 840 meters (2,760 feet) on the outer Monterey Canyon. This species is a close relative of the strawberry squid (Histioteuthis heteropsis), but sightings by MBARI's ROVs are much less common.

Folks, it is NOT from 1936. It's the World War 2 edition of Monopoly! There are a couple of wooden dice but it also includes a paper spinner 'owing to the difficulty in obtaining dice'. We've also got weird wooden tokens instead of the usual player pieces due to 'wartime restrictions'.

the way to make this website bearable if not necessarily "good" btw is to follow a lot of artists, biologists and archaeologiests. the other way is to do literally anything else but i have zero self discipline so the first method is essential

i like to collect animal teeth from the shores of the thames 🦷🌊 it's also meant to be a play on 'tooth and claw' because i love tennyson greatly; it didn't occur to me that it only works in non-rhotic pronunciations until after i made it the name of my game imprint
