45 years ago I left England for Milwaukee as a JYA student. 2 years later I returned to begin graduate school at UW Milwaukee. Today, in Milwaukee, I became a U.S. citizen. I want to participate in the defence of the republic and the ideals for which it stands. From today I do that as a citizen. 🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

My story is just like your’s (and at the same universities🙂): a grant funding my undergraduate education, and then fellowships funding my graduate education in the USA. Nothing that I have achieved since then would have been possible without this support.

Somehow I had missed that Dame Cleo Laine had left us, at the grand age of 97. I met her at Winfield House in London, at an event honoring Dave Brubeck, and she was lovely. I was able to tell her that I had grown up listening to her music.
