Everyone needs to read this necessary piece by Ben Wright. I think most of us working in red states get “blue-state-splained” on the regular. Wright says this is more than condescension. It “fractures communities that require solidarity.” Exodus is not the answer.

The Voting Rights Act is essentially dead and it’s quite possible that we will, like when a similar SCOTUS gutted civil rights at the fall of Reconstruction, see a disappearance of much of the Black congressional representation, especially in the most heavily Black states, which are in the South.

I do not begrudge my colleagues who leave. But I don't need judgment from folks outside of Texas if I have to stay: "We do not need to be lectured. We do not need to be rescued. What we need is support. Many of us see staying not as an ethical failure, but as the very fulfillment of our values."
