we spent years setting up WorldCon 2020 then had to pivot to digital in a couple of months due to covid. It's still something that hurts a little – I'd really appreciate any support in bringing it back to the South Pacific so folks like me can actually attend in person, for once.

High-Level, Actionable Insights From Watching Doubles Luge For The First Time | Defector
To the uninitiated, luge itself might seem a silly sport, given that the average person might guess it mostly consists of holding onto a sled real tight as it goes fast down the ice. Of course, this opinion is wrong. Luge requires athleticism and dexterity, the ability to steer using the slightest movements of your…

Just yesterday Canadian Blood Services said there was an urgent need for blood and plasma donations. Today's tragedy is a reminder that donating blood is something that you can do that will always help in the wake of a mass casualty event, but it also preemptively saves lives.

Ten years ago today we shipped Firewatch. I say this every anniversary but it feels both like a lifetime ago and like it was yesterday. Thank you everyone who played it back then or played it today for the first time. Thank you to everyone on the team, I’m still so proud of what we made.

In happier news, this goes to the printers today. Expect to see it physically wherever I am soon (GAMA and Adepticon are nearest), and digitally everywhere else. Totally free. It's an entirely self-funded effort to promote unionization through play with a generous donation of art.

As a former journalist, and as someone who has had mixed experiences with Rascal as a developer and artist, this article was absolutely infuriating to read and led to me not renewing my subscription. An unattributed pull quote before a paywall calling someone a fake queer is beyond ethical failure.

I'm going to say this again in case you haven't heard this one: I was a talented writer and it did *nothing whatsoever* because I hadn't put in the work, and I put in the work for ten years (subtracting the bit where I had to quit for my mental health) to write Witchmark talent alone could *never*

As someone who edits 1-2 publishing agreements a week, whenever a funding agreement from a successful developer trying to share the wealth passes my desk they tend to include some of the best and most equitable terms I have ever seen. An unseen positive trend in the industry at the indie level!

Sherlock Holmes is only an asshole when it suits him. NEVER when it will hurt someone he cares about and NEVER when it will hurt the case. The man is actually masterful at human relations. Every modern adaptation fails at this.

Turning up to bear witness and record evidence when there’s a very real risk of getting shot is a level of courage I thought few people had. I was wrong, and it gives me real hope to see so many people willing to stand up for their communities.

I spent a long time learning to make the villains I wrote seem more “realistic”, more human, more relatable and understandable. Turns out actual evil people tend to be stupid, selfish, awful, and loud about it.

I thought this was a clever metaphor for the state of the world at first but…no…this is a very literal thread about being on a bus where the driver has some very set ideas about where the bus is going. It’s absolutely bonkers.

Cancel. Genuinely. Cancel. A rejection at the border is a permanent mark against entry, forever. If you insist, follow dangerous territory protocols: know your embassy details, make sure someone knows your travel details, and have funds for emergency legal, health, and departure expenditures.
