A good point & one I bring up in my drone talks. Not being able to SCUBA doesn’t preclude one from being a marine scientist. Some of the first drone pilots in my lab were individuals who couldn’t dive due to medical conditions. We need to highlight the different ways of being a marine scientist.

I worry that the focus on NOAA's weather predicting value is ignoring the millions of other ways NOAA researchers enrich communities and local economies. There are no oysters without NOAA. There are no blue crabs without NOAA. NOAA trains teachers. NOAA is the lifeblood of coastal communities.

Well Craig, one of the most fascinating organisms I've seen is Chondrocladia, a type of carnivorous sponge. These incredible deep-sea sponges capture their prey using specialized, hooked shaped spicules, that serve as underwater velcro for tiny crustaceans.
