all that to say when mean girls came out a year after thirteen that was probably my first identity crisis that i can remember that was the first of many

some are absolutely thriving and that’s great for them but it’s a small percentage

in a lot of ways i think of school-aged friends who were ahead of their time doing and trying things that no one would blink at now as a “victim of the times”

i made all the “right” decisions compared to her (not that i had any choice in my immigrant-christian-two-piece-combo household) but i’m not very happy and i’m constantly mean to myself so was it worth it

so of course she was in my dream last night and it was about what my life could have been like if i had the courage to be self accepting

did a hard 180 from preppy to scene and based on my google search that’s the look that stuck

she had a series of legal run ins i don’t think she went to college she might have had a stint in adult work

but she always had whatever that is that makes people want to be youtube famous or an influencer like that’s not a completely new phenomenon

she was whip smart unsurprisingly as we all met in gifted classes but her mom let her get highlights, spray tan, acrylic nails, tight clothes, she was like the walking pre teen model for hollister

at the time she was aspiring to be myspace famous so you can imagine what that looks like now when that was your peak

once in a while i’ll think about her and google her and only her fb comes up and she’s in like a social media time capsule

growing up we made friends with the girl who was every mother’s nightmare esp as the movie thirteen had come out around that time and she was the only one zoned for another high school when we reached that time so it was a big sigh of relief when we fell off
