Unexpected France: The Indonesian word for buffet, "prasmanan", came from Betawi "prasmanan", from Dutch "Fransman" (Frenchman), in the sense of "service à la française". For years I thought "prasmanan" came from Sanskrit as a Javanese loanword.

Alright, so the new Finance Minister of Indonesia is planning to redenominate the currency. This has actually been proposed for decades now, all with failure, but damn I wish this one to get through. Having a currency with so many zeroes in its denomination just feels weird.

I know this is a recurring theme among many languages, but I'm still thinking of how stacked this Indonesian word is: "punyanya" (his belonging) Punya: elided from "empunya". From old Javanese empu (master), in this context "owner". So, empunya -> "of the master". -nya: 3rd person sing. possessive

A recurring pattern of dystopian stories set in the US is that the main characters would escape to Canada towards the end of the story. I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad narrative, but it's a trope at this point

However, the word "human" might cause confusion in furry literature, unless the worldbuilding specifically states the existence of Homo sapiens. That word carries more biological undertone than, for example, "people", which can be used to mean a community of individuals; something clearly social.

In a furry world without humans (as in the species), its inhabitants probably would still use the term "human" as a social construct, signifying their shared sapience and figure (being bipedal and all). They're unlikely to consider themselves as "animals", as that might suggest to nonsapient ferals.

Perhaps in a furry world where not all vertebrates get anthropomorphized, the furry fandom would still emerge in that universe. It's just amusing to think about. Imagine a stoat guy dressing up in a deer fursuit, assuming that ungulates didn't become bipedal and sapient in the setting.
