Today that Christmas Eve is upon us, I want to remind people of the "Tió de Nadal", or Christmas Log. A custom from Catalonia and Aragon in which children take a hollow log home, take care of it during Advent and then, on Christmas Eve, beat it with sticks until it shits out presents.

"Draken Harald Hårfagre" is the name of the real viking drakkar reconstruction Nolan has used in the film. You can't go more viking than that.

I think Nolan's Odyssey is just a port of the Greek epic to the North. Nothing in the trailer feels remotely Mediterranean. Instead, it’s dominated by dark, boring muddy colors, cold landscapes, trousers, medieval imagery, and even drakkars. It feels like a vikingization of the Mediterranean tale.

All the Odyssey movie “inaccurate” versus “who cares” arguments are both fun and exhausting. But the trailer shows them rowing a clinker built Viking ship. That is like depicting Columbus crossing the Atlantic in a Chinese junk.
