According to RAINN, for every thousand sexual assaults in the United States, there are eleven arrests. Eleven. "Why don't women come forward?" That's why. (It's also why I'm an abolitionist.)

The antebellum United States was an absolutely wretched, racist, and evil country. Somehow, the Confederacy was even worse. And on this day in 1865, it died. Happy Confederate Surrender Day. Rest in Piss to one of the most evil regimes in history.

"As a fat brown queer disabled immigrant woman and trauma survivor, who was a mental health therapist for decades, who remains a trauma-informed equity practitioner, educator, etc., nothing could convince me to stay on a newsletter platform after learning that my writing work would profit Nazis." 👀

Substack Remains a Nazi Bar, But At Least This Newsletter Post Makes It Easier to Inform You
This newsletter post is the author's attempt at reclaiming her time further after the umpteenth negative experience with folx who claim to share values, community, etc., as she continues to reckon with the costs of Access Intimacy Abuse at the hands of Makai Livingstone, the founder of Embodied Support Services, while reflecting on her grave reality as a disabled trauma survivor. Given how her ex's financial abuse of at least $183,364 over 6.5 years has further disabled her and limited her ability to afford to exist, she reinforces the necessity of this lifelong work of unpacking internalized ableism, which includes honouring her access needs.

We need to teach about the Civil Rights Movement more and in more detail. One reason is to get people out of the idea that the goal of civil disobedience is martyrdom. It's quite the opposite.

solidarity with Jairo and all colleagues who use their voice to challenge colonial logics and legacies in the very universities that we work and teach in. Jairo's case reminds us that job offers and tenure decisions are not objective assessments but political decisions.

If I had a dollar for every time a woman in leadership abused her power and harassed me as a junior scholar but won a professional award the very same year, I'd only have two dollars but it still feels like a lot for one person to deal with.

we have to stop the innate urge to split things in half. another tenet of yt supremacy culture is either/or thinking. decolonizing doesnt mean colonized/decolonized, it's a false dichotomy. reading la paperson and they demonstrate that the decolonial already exists even within colonial contexts.

somewhere in the corner of my mind is a little scribble about the invocation of stolen land as a way to place it in the past like ope sorry gone forever and as a way of erasure of all the genocide and colonial violence that occurred and remains ongoing to keep said stolen land

collective Liberation is not the girl scouts. you don't get patches or sashes for every little achievement. a lot of yall need to interrogate the part of you that needs external validation that you're "one of the good ones" -- this individualism is a core tenet of yt supremacy culture

The wording of headlines surrounding Jonathan Joss' murder is almost a direct mirror to how folks like to talk about colonization. Some have said he was in a dispute or feud with his neighbor. Others say it was a gunfight. He was harassed for *years* and was never taken seriously. 1/

Jonathan Joss (Comanche, White Mountain Apache) did not simply die from a gunshot. He was murdered in a homophobic, racist hate crime by his former neighbors. He died saving his partners life. Honor his legacy-- both queerness and Indigeneity are inextricable to why he was targeted.

objectivity is another lie of yt supremacy. the notion that certain folks can be completely objective in how they study OTHER groups of people, but we can never work in our own communities because we're "too close". What a perfect set up for yt savior research.

I'm not impressed by "checking your privilege" in the exact same way I could care less if your org does a land acknowledgement. Because 9/10 times you're about to carry on with your colonial nonsense afterwards anyways. Just keep it moving, folks.
