Could you imagine a community-owned server for KH artists? Or writers? Or websites?

The thing I've been most interested the most about Mastodon was that, theoretically, the community could own and run a server itself and the stuff would belong to us and not be at risk of being shut down or sold to some rich guy.

I am once again asking everyone to consider moving to a community-owned social network and away from a platform owned and operated by a single entity. Even though one theoretically could have its own self-hosted Bsky version, in practice, almost no one does, and that means a single-point of pressure

By the way, you can in fact run a media business where people give you money for goods and services. 56k+ people give The Onion ~$100 and we give them a year of newspapers. This business didn’t exist last year in this way. People will pay for good shit. Now’s the time to break glass and go for it.

If you’re rich and not a coward, this is what you’d refer to as a “market opportunity” to dominate a media ecosystem that’s about to be covered in grotesque government slop. To be a pop of color in a sea of beige will be easier than ever. People will flock to it. You gotta be a little brave, though.

I am unaware of any other product or service where people are this demanding that the provider receive no compensation. You don't go to McD's and refuse to pay for the food because you're poor. Or maybe you do, I don't know you. But so many people demand journalism be both free of cost and ad free.
