Rant I doubt anyone but the neurodivergent have noticed: Because the world is majority NT, the training data that LLMs are trained on is majority NT, and so Claude Code, et al, listens to an ND person about as well as an NT person, ie not closely at all. It's infuriating. 😡

So one thing I can't control on my work machine is the time it takes for the computer to go into screensaver mode. It's very short. This was annoying prior to AI, triggered when I spent too long reading or thinking. Now, it's even more annoying with all the time spent waiting on agents.

I think we need some positive version of the word "envy". I can look at my friends, see them thriving and succeeding, and desire that for myself without any ill will towards them. I don't need to take what they have. I just wish I could find it for myself again.

The tradeoff is always "do it right up front, but take longer to do it" vs "make a mess now, that you'll never clean up later, until it's so fucking chaotic you blow the whole thing up, but at least you can ship a wee bit faster right now".

I have no problem seeing myself doing other work. I know I can learn to do anything. I made a big career switch before, I could do it again. The thing I can't see myself doing is other work where I generate similar income, or have health insurance, or can save for retirement, or keep my house...

The generational chokehold conservatism has on people older than me will never make sense to me. I don’t understand how they can be so oblivious to the role good fortune played in their lives. No one’s saying you didn’t work hard. I work hard. But acknowledging good fortune doesn’t take that away.

I got the pleasure of creating & coding a reusable component by hand yesterday. I got to find all the edge cases the designer and even the AI was missing. Came up with an elegant solution to one of 'em. It's the best I've felt working in ~6-9 months, maybe?

Ahhh, I've just pulled a classic ADHD move. I just opened a fresh new moleskin notebook, wrote a few pages of things I need to focus on, and most likely will completely abandon it in just a couple days, left to live forever in the pile of a dozen or so other notebooks that met the same fate.

There’s a bad pattern emerging. With AI, the time it takes to write code is effectively zero. Everyone’s effort is the same (zero), and the quality is the same, too. Thus, getting code merged comes down SOLELY to your ability to convince others to review it. Social currency is all you have.

Just got a sad. Talking with a colleague about an idea. Turns out he has a similar one. I went to say, "I'd love to help you with this." But there won't be any helping. I won't write anything. I may help him write a slightly better spec & prompt, but there's no need for me to do part of the work.
