We sent our mayoral and council survey to the candidates running for office in Jersey City. Questions focus on housing, transit, street safety, and public parks. Candidate answers will inform any endorsements we make. Take the survey and think about how you would respond!

I’m going to be going back to the tape of that Zoning Board meeting because there were some spicy moments. I never thought a debate over the definition of Accessory could be so riveting.

San Francisco went BRT (dedicated bus lane) and changing how riders enter and exit the bus (ie, not at the curb) and things are better for buses and car drivers.

Perhaps the Port Authority has a hearing problem because they don't seem to be listening to rider frustrations on PATH service levels, frequent disruptions, and demand for direct airport service. PATH leadership needs to get out of the board room and onto the platform to hear from riders.

I've been a big supporter of Josh Shapiro up to this point, but raiding SEPTA capex will completely change that. This is a complete capitulation that will put SEPTA if not the entire Phila region into a transit death spiral.

The Jersey City Department of Infrastructure presented a plan for dedicated bus lanes designed to speed up transit and make streets safer for tens of thousands of residents. Many misconceptions around the plan swirled in the wake of a community meeting. We clear those up.

ICYMI: Community meetings are often unrepresentative of community opinion at large, favoring those with the time, ability, and personal motivation to attend. Governing solely based on such feedback results in decisions that make housing more expensive and our streets less safe.

If anyone wants to work with us to canvass at bus stops on Ocean and MLK so that those bus riders' voices can be heard on this, let us know! It'll drastically speed up their buses, but I'm worried many of them won't even know about this survey or meeting!

The question here isn't whether the building gets built or not--its already approved. It's whether we get a curb cut that will cause pedestrian and car conflicts on Bergen Ave, or a store, more affordable units, and a street tree instead.

Blaming the death of a child on homes getting built half a mile away is so wrong, on every level. Both factually, and at the level of common decency.

An excellent op-ed on a project that @katiebrennan.bsky.social, @ravibhalla.bsky.social and @yousefjsaleh.bsky.social have said they support because of its strong proposed affordable housing component, public school, and other unique amenities for the community.

Safe streets are not optional but the danger we face daily is a choice: poor road infrastructure, lack of enforcement, and large vehicle sizes. The Dutch "Stop de Kindermoord" movement remade their cities and roads to serve people, creating safety for families of all ages.

Better blocks are often times built one block at a time. Jersey City, like Hoboken’s Garage B plans, has several promising sites including 150 Bay and 155 Montgomery for large amounts of new affordable housing, amenities to support the arts, public plazas, and space for public schools.
