The more important contribution (at least for me) is the examination of heterogeneity across states. The waivers had a positive effect in 14 states. Half of the variation in achievement effects is explained by federal per-pupil education funding.

One thing that's really interesting here is the travel standard limits, which I think are reasonable! They don't want students to have to travel more than 30-40 minutes one way. But it shouldn't just be a rural standard. Note that in urban school choice contexts, students routinely travel that far.

I've updated my study on remote learning in 2020-21 and post-COVID attendance in MI. 1) More remote learning led to lower attendance post-pandemic, though not a linear relationship. 2) Remote learning explains overall a small amount of post-COVID attendance decline. edworkingpapers.com/ai25-1196

For context, this drop in attendance rates related to the measles outbreak (about 93% to 90%) is almost as large as the initial drop in TX attendance rates from pre-pandemic to post-pandemic (95% in 2018-19 to 91% in 2021-22). (TX attendance trends over time here: www.aei.org/research-pro...)

For the whole US, we produce two metrics: one capturing the degree of tax base fragmentation within every metro area, and another capturing the own-source fiscal capacity of every general-purpose local jurisdiction (measured as per capita property wealth; standardized by metro).

The pilot began at two high schools in an attempt to boost attendance. An average of 15 students are riding each of the eight buses per day.
