Ahh..the Yorkshire coast in autumn. Last year I was lucky enough to see spectacular numbers of winter thrushes spiraling down out of the clouds @spurnbirdobs.bsky.social. I’m so grateful for these little mental treasures that I keep safe and unwrap when I need them most! #birds

Last commission for a wee while, and this was an absolute gift to work on. Such a beautiful old map found by the clients. Happy faces all round on collection day. Now to put pens down and my hands on ice for a day or two.

Downed the pen and pencil and took up Binoculars and Camera for a week in Northumbria. Grasshopper Warblers were a beautiful feature…though as I can still hear them now I’m home, I am slightly concerned they have done something sinister to my brain!! #birds!

Big numbers of #nocmig migrants heading E over #Wigginton #York presently in the thermal - mostly wildfowl but also waders and passerines. Clear skies here so most too high to pick up calls, but a few lower Scoter flocks audible. Woodcock NE also.

Two little Moray Firth vintage map pieces adorned with tiny Long Tailed Duck pen drawings, sent off to the wonderful leaders of “School Of Birding” following a fabulous highlands trip earlier this month. These ducks are now hitting the heady heights of my top of the Ducks list!! #birds!

I have longed to see Cresties for most of my life, and last wk my birdy dreams came true! I’m working on a wee drawing on vintage map of Abernethy forest…Barely in sight, tricky to see, this little bird emerging from the details of the map sums up the experience for me. #birdart #crestedtit

Back from a truly amazing week in the highlands. The Long-tailed Duck came out as a favourite bird, and one I’ve wanted to see since I was a kiddywink. A few sketches this morning…and I had to break out the soft and heavy pencils for a change!! #birds #birdwatching #longtailedduck

It’s taken me 5 yrs to find this marvellous print of a work by Keith Shackleton, after stupidly passing up the chance to buy one in 2019. I would go so far as to say it’s been haunting me all that time. Sometimes art really gets under your skin. The beautiful wildness of the angle and the sea!!

Every December I get the hots for a Vintage book. Last year it was The Wind In The Willows and the beautiful line illustrations of EH Shepherd. This year….well, I could be gone some time folks. #birds 🪶

A well timed walk along part of the new “Outstrays” reserve on the Humber estuary this Barely out of the car park before a Peregrine bombed through scattering ducks and waders in panic. Short Eared Owl, Barn Owl and a stunning Ringtail Harrier illuminated in the golden light. Marvellous.

This evening’s bit of nostalgia I always absolutely loved these gorgeous illustrations by Harry Titcombe gracing the cover of the 1970s OS Leisure maps. Inspiration for little artist me and pack of crayola aged 8. #birds
