Some more pictures of Common darter by the Carp lake, where despite the chilly conditions, they were still soaking up the morning sun

The New workings Mute swan family. This family of 4 cygnets has the ability to 'Disappear' in the New workings, for weeks at a time. They were a family of 7 cygnets at hatching in June, then not being seen for 2 months which gave the belief that they had failed, only to be seen again in late August

Monday, Different Ruffs were on Crossland's causeway & the Island lake, with the juvenile Ringed plover on East Holm, 7 Bearded tits were seen in Cell 'C', with others being heard in the southern part of the Reed-bed, Several small skeins of Pink-footed geese were seen flying in various directions,

A beautiful September day @northcavewet.bsky.social saw quite a few butterflies, including this Small Copper. Elsewhere: Bearded Tits

Always a beautiful visual & aural experience, at the same time it does signify that autumn & winter are surely coming. The sight & sound of Pink-footed geese as they make their way to either the Wolds in the morning for feeding or the estuary in the afternoon for roosting

A feature for me this autumn, has been the number of Swallows that have been present on the reserve. This has lead to several encounters as parents feed juveniles on the hawthorn hedges, but also some close views as happened today on the walk to the Dennis Woods hide

Sunday, There were 21 Eygptian geese on East Holm, with 90+ Canadian & several skeins of Pink-footed geese about, A Common sandpiper & juvenile Ringed plover on East Holm, a Redshank & Green sandpiper on the Island lake, Also seen was Grey wagtail (East Holm), Kingfisher (Carp lake) & Garden warbler

Friday, The juvenile Black tern was intermittently over Crossland's lake, with the juvenile Little stint still on the causeway, East Holm had 15 Eygptian geese & 17 Curlew in the early morning, with 3 Ringed plovers & Common sandpipers, plus a Dunlin there later on, 2 Ruff (Island lake)

@northcavewet.bsky.social @northcavebirds.bsky.social this morning, 1 Little Stint, 4 Ringed Plover, 60 Pink-feet including one failing to keep up that I think landed on Village Lake. It must be getting near the end of the butterfly season judging by this Wall Brown!

Thursday, The Little stint (Crossland's causeway) & juvenile Black tern (Crossland's lake) were still present today, Also on Crossland's lake, was a Common sandpiper, Oystercatcher & Pintail, Seen elsewhere were Whinchat & Stonechat (both on the fence line between Cells 'A' & 'B',

The rainy weather this morning, drove the hirundines to hawking over East Holm & Crossland's lakes especially. Must have been 200+ birds doing this

Wednesday, 3 Turnstones briefly on Crossland's causeway, a Little stint, 4 Common sandpipers & an Oystercatcher also there, The juvenile Black tern was intermittently seen on Crossland's lake, On East Holm, Ruff, Redshank (2 also on the Island lake), Greenshank, Curlew & 9 Eygptian geese were seen,

Did not expect to see this, a Common field grasshopper by Dryham farm, in the sunshine, but also a blustery wind

The 2 juvenile Little stints have been here on Crossland's causeway since Sunday, but not always that easy to see, or to photograph! At the same it does show how small they are

Tuesday, At Crossland's lake & causeway, the 2 juvenile Little stints, 3 Ringed plovers & a juvenile Black tern were present, East Holm has 19 Eygptian geese, 20 Curlews, plus 2 Peregrines & plus 2 Hobbies & a juvenile in a Tree near the hide, A Great white egret was on the Island lake

The Little stints stayed overnight & could be seen with careful scanning of Crossland's causeway (although I could only find one of the two present), Due to the small size & background, a difficult bird to photograph!

Very welcome today in the blustery conditions, even if it only stayed a brief time, was this juvenile Black tern. Always mobile & hard to pin down, it did come close on to the west path on one occasion. If only the light had been a bit better!

Monday, Crossland's lake was the main attraction today, with a brief juvenile Black tern, 2 Little stints & 2 Ringed plovers, single Greenshank, Common sandpiper, plus Yellow wagtails & 100+ hirundines Elsewhere, Whinchat & Stonechat at the fence line between Cell 'A' & 'B'

Great visit to NCW Yesterday Osprey, Little Stint, Bittern & Greenshank

Little Stint showed well at times on the Crosslands Lake causeway at North Cave Wetlands. @northcavewet.bsky.social

With a little bit of patience this morning, it was possible to photograph the Swallows in flight close up, that is usually very difficult to do

There have been 100+ hirundines hawking over the western part of the North path for about 2 weeks. Occasionally, they will rest on one of the North hedge bushes (preferably one will very few leaves) & provide a spectacle from the path

My highlight today, was the osprey that was seen to drift from the north via the East ridge & then 'float' over the Village lake to the annoyance of the Starlings & Lapwings, before continuing south

Saturday, A juvenile Little stint on Crossland's causeway, just after mid-day, In the late morning, an Osprey drifted in from the north over the Village lake, continuing south, 2 Greenshanks & 2 Green sandpipers on the Island lake, with 2 Common sandpipers on East Holm & 38 Golden plovers south

For a change, a Hairy shieldbug by the Carp lake. The dry weather seems to have restricted them this year.

Some good pictures today of an approachable Willow emerald damselfly, showing the sheen of the abdomen colours

Much the only bumblebee flying now, a Common carder warming up in the sunshine on one of the wooden posts, before commencing the morning's work

Friday, A Greenshank & 2 Green sandpipers were on the Island lake, with another Green sandpiper on the Village lake. Also about 40 Curlews flew south over Crossland's lake, Bearded tits heard in the south east corner of Crossland's lake, Also seen was Pink-footed goose, 2 Kingfishers (Main lake)

You know when people say record shot and it’s no such thing? Well not in this case, but I am so pleased that NCW finally scored Glossy Ibis today that I wanted to post this shot.

A brief insect from near the Carp lake, Helophilus pendulas the 'Footballer', or the 'Sunfly' as it is also known (it was sunny as I took the photo)

The 6 Black-tailed godwits this morning, that spent all of about 20 minutes on the Island lake this morning. never settling, they were always on the move, feeding & exploring the lake

Today, was memorable in the good passage of Meadow pipits, with at least 200 birds being seen either by West Holm or the Crossland's embankment. Always wary, calling, on the move & chasing each other, another sign of autumn being well on it's way1

Thursday, 2 Glossy ibis flew over in the afternoon, 6 Black-tailed godwits (Island lake), 2 Greenshanks, Ringe dplover, Common & Green sandpipers, Also seen 17 Eygptian geese (East Holm), plus at least 100 Meadow pipits & 50 Yellow wagtails passing thro'

Occasionally you get birds flying over the Turret hide, giving some unbelievable sights, as did this female Kestrel this morning
