Starlings leaving their overnight roost on Reedbed Lake, North Cave Wetlands, at 7:30am. this morning. An equally impressive sight as the afternoon murmurations if a lot shorter in duration, all over in 36 seconds. @northcavewet.bsky.social

This Bittern, one of two birds currently on the reserve, gave excellent views as it fished in the cut channel on Village Lake below the Turret Hide at North Cave Wetlands this morning. @northcavewet.bsky.social

Sightings:3rd October 2025. North Cave Wetlands. Undoubted highlight of the year so far was the first reserve record of HOOPOE, which flew over the Village Lake Viewing Platform and Car Park late morning. Bird also seen around nearby Farm buildings before flying off east. @northcavewet.bsky.social

The most unexpected bird of the month was probably the immature Gannet that flew past the reserve on the 30th, only the 6th record and first since 2013 @northcavewet.bsky.social
