Under reconciliation bill in 2028 states face 2 huge budget hits: more restrictions on existing #Medicaid provider taxes and SNAP cost shifts. In 2027 (if not sooner) they will need to close big budget holes likely by slashing Medicaid and SNAP maybe even dropping Medicaid expansion & SNAP entirely.

These seem to be the final GOP Congress/White House arguments defending $1T in draconian #Medicaid cuts: (1) there are no Medicaid cuts (2) we’re all going to die (3) get over it (4) this is only about videogame playing 25 yr-olds & (5) CBO is partisan. They mostly dropped the anti-fraud argument.

Despite House Rs saying harsh #Medicaid work requirements only apply to young adults, they apply to older adults up to age 64 and parents of dependent children 14 and over. And work requirements have no effect on employment/hours worked. They are just about cutting enrollment among eligible people.

It shouldn’t have to continue to be said that a 5-year $50B fund for rural providers with 1/2 doled out at whim of Secretary is not a magical fix for a bill that permanently cuts #Medicaid by $1T/10 years and trillions more in future decades and overall takes away coverage from up to 17M people.

Provider taxes are key financing source for #Medicaid programs. If you slash those revenues & prohibit states from raising revenues via new provider taxes, that blows giant hole in Medicaid budgets. The resulting cuts will affect all on Medicaid: kids, seniors, disabled, parents, other adults, etc.
