Shylock is among the most quintessential antisemitic stereotypes. This is not an accident. It follows years in which Trump has normalized antisemitic tropes and conspiracy theories — and it’s deeply dangerous.

Donald Trump just referred to bankers using a centuries-old antisemitic slur & trope. No wonder 52% of American Jewish voters believe he's antisemitic.

This is an abandonment of diaspora Jews. Normalizing the political parties that are the fringe heirs to Nazism in Europe is not something the Israeli government should be doing.

In case we’ve forgotten, an AfD supporter killed 5 people in a terror attack a month ago. Today — after a week that included Nazi salutes, pardons of violent insurrectionists, & far-right anti-immigrant/LGBTQ policies — Trump official Musk rallied with AfD & told them to “move beyond” the Holocaust.

I can’t believe this still needs to be said: Musk’s Nazi salute wasn’t an accident. It follows years of him embracing & normalizing antisemitism & extremism. And regardless of intent, the impact of a Nazi salute behind the presidential podium is that violent antisemites are now even more emboldened

There is so much joy in this news, and also so much apprehension. The hostages are not home until they're home; a ceasefire isn't in place until it's in place; an agreement to bring home 33 hostages doesn't guarantee anything for the remaining 65.
