A review of Back to the Wall (1958)
Successful industrialist Jacques Decrey (GΓ©rard Oury) discovers his wife, Gloria (Jeanne Moreau), is having an affair with unemployed actor Yves (Philippe Nicaud). He decides to punish her by blackmailing her under a false identity, but his plot comes with unexpected consequences. Based on the novel by FrΓ©dΓ©ric Dard ("Blonde in the White Car", "Paris Pick-Up"). The twists and turns of this story and the characters personalities makes this an intriguing watch. The black and white cinematography by Robert Lefebvre ("Casque dβor") is exceptional and also thoroughly noir. The lead performances are excellent, and the supporting characters, some of whom we
