Standing with my Jewish neighbours in the rain close to Heaton Park Shul. Antisemitism has been on the rise. When I go to Mass, there’s no security on the door. My kids don’t have drills to prepare for a possible attack. We can’t defeat hate with more hate, only with love, togetherness and action.

We got a leaflet about a local redevelopment. One of the benefits listed in this message to local residents, is a “delivering a net gain in biodiversity”. Who signs this stuff off ffs.

Our thoughts, love and solidarity are with the people affected by the heinous attack on the Heaton Park synagogue, and to the whole Jewish community in Manchester, Bury and across the country marking this holy and solemn day of Yom Kippur. Antisemitism, hate and division can never win.

Imagine a world in which the cost of living got double the attention and political heat that immigration gets. Then ask yourself why it doesn’t.

The lesson that should be taken from this is that people are influenced by the dominant conversations in their political/media environment. The lesson that will be taken is that this proves we just need to keep on talking about immigration.
