People are noted to become increasingly conservative as they age. But interesting reflection on the failure of centrist politics within this - which I believe has been stated elsewhere. Touches also on the social media contribution to elder generation views on Brexit, migration and identity.

If people use AI to write social media posts, create images, write/review articles/books/music, advertise jobs, apply for jobs, short-list for jobs….how do we recognize skills, competency, aptitude, the real people in all this? Where does this leave people who want to remain authentic In their work?

One major issue is when I react to a post, the algorithm kicks in and I’m bombarded with posts on the same theme from people I do not know, and then do not see much else in my timeline. This makes me hesitant to react to any posts or ‘unlike’ them. And people write long texts (not blogs)

I feel like LinkedIn has become intensely academic, job oriented, output-oriented. A marketplace. Like twitter was but with longer posts & less of the 'other stuff' around it. I like that bluesky has a mix of posts, news, commentary, opinion. That I don't have to buy. Although I wished more engaged.

When has the academic labour market ever been good? I see LinkedIn posts on ECRs dire prospects, high volumes of applicants, rejected (high-quality) postdoc proposals... But jobs/funding have always been limited, based on networks/nepotism, questionable reviews, demanded more than the job level...

Was there EVER a time when staff were not in dispute with UoN bosses? Was working life EVER sustainable? Were staff EVER valued? I was a postgrad betw 2013 & 2019 and there seemed to be yearly industrial ballots, strikes, social media posts of 🐶 on picket lines. This does not seem to have changed.
