This is gonna sound alien to the kids, but once upon a time individual bulbs on a Christmas tree light string could burn out and if one died the whole string might stop working. Some were wired to keep working with a burned out bulb. Others weren't, and you had to find ONE BULB on the whole string.

I just mentioned on stream the other day that the only Christmas tree lights we have left are the ancient incandescent kind. There's no good reason to keep using them. They run way too hot and draw too much power compared to LEDs, especially when in contact with something potentially flammable.
