New Saga 強くてニューサーガ 1x07 is more along the lines of what I was expecting. Lots of positioning and using wealth to alter the balance of power. Some nice humour too.

Karate Kid: Legends (2025) is ok. Don't go in expecting a Cobra Kai movie though. It's actually mostly a Ben Wang (character Li Fong) movie. Even Jackie Chan takes a long time to show up, and Ralph Macchio just towards the end. I wouldn't have done the final Macchio aftercredits scene.

A lot happened in Turkey Time ( 「Turkey!」 ) 1x06. You can now see very clearly that the underlying theme of the show is about group identity and self-sacrifice for the benefit of the group, versus individuality. Also a lot of dynamics were added in 1x06 in terms of twists and style shifts.

There seems to be an issue with Fafner (2004) on Crunchyroll. As far as I can tell 1x02 is basically the same episode as 1x01. The events aren't in exactly the same sequence, but it's the same events and scenes.

Thunderbolts* (2025) is good.

Project Blue Earth SOS ( Project BLUE 地球 SOS ) is ok. It ends weakly. I'm surprised at how low the ratings are though. It's a very 1950s story, with a bit more insight into the nature of aliens than usual. It's basically as if you made a few Tom Swift Jr. books into an anime.

Enjoying 2006's Project Blue Earth SOS (Project BLUE 地球SOS) so far. Wikipedia calls it a retro-futuristic 90s. It is an adaptation of a novel by science fiction illustrator Shigeru Komatsuzaki, written between 1948 and 1951. I would say it's kind of aliens vs. James Bond + Johnny Quest x2.

1/ With You and the Rain 雨と君と and Turkey Time both continue to deliver in the summer 2025 anime season. New Saga 強くてニューサーガ is more problematic for understandable reasons. He's trying to do a major temporal incursion, which means he needs to disrupt things at a continental level.

I appreciated the Twist in The Buccaneers season 2 finale (2x08), and I thought the start of the season was very strong, but it feels like they've reached the point in the story where the plot is driving the characters, which always makes for some odd tonal shifts and decisions.

One of the things I appreciate about Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars / Record of the School Wars (2001) 学園戦記ムリョウ is the satire of bureaucracy. Student gov are also the alien fighters, so it's like "we have to cancel classes this afternoon to fight aliens... but get your budget submissions in".

Watching 2001's Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars (in English), actually 学園戦記ムリョウ "Record of the School Wars: MURYOU" in Japanese, the title card inexplicably presents both versions just for good measure. It's a kind of comedy alien invasion middle school story. I like how it breaks the 4th wall.

1/ Stellvia (2003) 宇宙のステルヴィア , which should really be called Stellvia: Space Academy, is good for the first cour and not as good for the second. The first cour basically ends with a completion of the first plot arc and the Christmas episode 12. Episode 13 feels pretty much like filler.

1/ Stellvia (2003) 宇宙のステルヴィア is a rare example of a fully science fiction anime. "Stellvia: Space Academy" probably would have been a better title. It's basically if you put a Japanese school overlay on top of space boarding school. Tom Corbett Space Cadet + Hogwarts + Sanderson's Skyward.

I was not impressed with the very anti-heroic, dishonorable battle style of Theron セラン in New Saga 強くてニューサーガ 1x05. There's a difference between savagery in battle and using your overpowered items and deception to murder.

SNW 3x03 made no sense. This should be Ortegas' new job. (One of the few times we see a janitor in ST, specifically in ST II.) Given the specific dates/connections it looks like they thought the show was going to launch on October 4.

The Buccaneers 2x07 was pretty redemptive, with a twist. Season finale 2x08 next Wednesday August 6, 2025.

Japanese doesn't seem to really have a Japanese phrase for time travel. "Time slip" seems to be a popular coinage used in a couple shows.

I finished watching the history of the science of electromagnetism anime Time Travel Girl [ Time Travel Girl: Mari, Waka, and the Eight Scientists タイムトラベル少女～マリ・ワカと8人の科学者たち～ (2016) ] It's ok. I do like how gleefully they interfere with history, which is very different from most time travel stories.

I continue to be somewhat mystified by the Summer 2025 anime Turkey Time, but I am still liking it. On Cruncyroll, Tuesdays. The Japanese title is basically just「Turkey!」

The science fiction comedy drama Resident Alien is now available in Canada on Crave. Seasons 1 and 2 are a masterpiece and form a complete plot arc. Highly recommended. Season 3 is mediocre. Season 4 is hot garbage. It is the final season of the show.
