On 16th September, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, articulated the strategic priorities for Great British Energy. We welcome several mentions of community energy, reaffirming Government support for local-led clean power.

On Saturday the drizzle cleared for a bright and hopeful Climate and Nature Fair organised by Tunbridge Wells CAN. 🌳 It was a pleasure to speak to so many passionate people about the impacts of community energy and grassroots advocacy.

Earlier this month, we were back at the @engineroomth.bsky.social, joining the community litter pick and supporting this church and community centre with its participation in the Eco Church initiative. ⛪💚

Over the bank holiday weekend, Power for People took part in the Sevenoaks Climate Fair and Newham Green Fair. 🌱🎪 It was inspiring to hear about what matters most to these communities, to learn about other initiatives from fellow stallholders, and to welcome new supporters to our campaign.

On 2nd April, Steve Shaw, Power for People’s Director, spoke to the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee as a part of their current inquiry, ‘Unlocking Community Energy at Scale’.

On 25th March the Great British Energy Bill returned to the House of Commons for the ‘Consideration of Amendments’. This is expected to be one of the Bill’s final stages before passing into law. We thank both @pippaheylings.bsky.social and Martin Rhodes MP, for supporting community energy.

We are delighted by the recent announcement of an extension to the Great British Community Energy Fund and equivalent support for Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. This is encouraging news, and warmly welcomed at Power for People.
