I once saw somebody who queued for 45 minutes every day to drive 1/2 mile. Motonormativity is such a powerful force, I suspect for a lot of people driving and movement are seen as the same thing. Add in the influence of habits and automatic behaviour and non-car alternatives don't even register

What is motonormativity? I'm on my way to an air pollution event in a city centre and the organisers have put the driving directions ahead of the public transport directions in the email

A new low on tonight's ride. Out with my
@passpixi.bsky.social
on my back and a car passes wide and sensibly as most do. As it pulls away I catch a green flash in my eye, and then realise that the driver is shining a green laser at me via the passenger side wing mirror.

It's really depressing to read of such abuse. Sad to say, but cameras feel like a must, and report any and all abuse be it a close pass or verbals from a vehicle occupant

Fellow journalists⦠this thing being ridden through a red light isnāt an e-bike, itās an electric motorcycle and is being used illegally. Bear that in mind when these chumps make the headlines after clattering either themselves or a fellow road user

Ride a bike along that path and you'd be a social pariah. Dickish parking like has become socially acceptable though. We need to punish selfishness like this hard.

You can see (or maybe struggle to see) why too many dangerous drivers donāt react to bike cameras⦠theyāre just too hard to spot. Would you spot the Garmin at 30/40mph?

My top tips for avoiding close passes: 1. Ride in the centre of the lane if needed 2. Add a
@passpixi.bsky.social
to your bike/panniers - no need to actually have a camera, the sign will do the job! 3. Campaign for better infrastructure so you don't have to worry about close passes š
