To the extent that the the US was ever a genuine democracy, that v shaky democracy lasted 48 years: 1965 (Voting Rights Act) - 2013 (the Roberts court's ruling in Shelby County v Holder). Fannie Lou Hamer fought way too hard & lost way too much for us to take SCOTUS's Callais ruling sitting down.

Today's Supreme Court ruling in Louisiana v. Callais is the culmination of John Roberts’ two-decade crusade to gut the Voting Rights Act. It is, simply put, a devastating blow to American democracy.

Like I said: the civil rights era never ended. You are still in it. The most important form of free speech, is the right to vote. Racists don't want Black people to vote. So they wrote down a plan to stack the Supreme Court with people that would make it harder for Black people to vote. It worked
