once you know *how* to solve the musical track puzzle of Myst, actually using that information is easy. the overarching puzzle of Riven is learning *how* something key to the culture of Riven works, to the point that revealing what it is would spoil the whole game. Myst 3/4 have almost none of this

I think I'm finally coalescing what makes Myst 3 and 4 so much worse than 1/Riven, and it's that the intrigue of first two is figuring out *how* to solve the puzzles. you're looking at obtuse mechanisms and when you realize *how* to interact with them you have a "oh my god it's so simple" moment
