Soak testing the Beeb after replacing a suspected faulty 6502... and now we play the waiting game! Thrust is a good test as it's demo mode keeps the chip active (and it reliably crashed every 20 minutes or so before with the old 6502...)

I have seen a lot of cursed stuff in my time in academia but this is among the *most* cursed. Grammarly is generating miniature LLMs based on academic work so that users can have their writing ‘reviewed’ by experts like David Abulafia, who died less than two months ago.

This is Amnesia, a game I developed for the BBC Micro that was never published/released officially. As you can see it's a work in progress tech demo with programmer graphics ( my own ). I think I worked on this for about 5 or 6 weeks and decided to devote my time to other projects.

It is maddening how little people seem to understand about how LLMs work. They are pattern matchers, they produce strings based on the statistically most likely string to follow on from the preceding string. Why would anyone think that would be a good basis for generating secure passwords?

Linux rite of passage this evening! Managed to boot into an older kernel and resolve things, turned out to be a stale version of Virtualbox preventing various crucial dependencies from upgrading. Fresh install of Virtualbox, sudo apt upgrade and back in business again 😎

I'd rather ARM steered well clear of AI. They could well end up coming out on top once the bubble bursts.
