Not only if they didn't spy on you but locking features behind paywalls! Disabled people are often poor enough. We don't need the tech to be cost prohibitive on top of spying & malfunctioning.

I really do think the thing we need to stop ignoring when talking about AI is how it's always wrong. When you say an AI tool is for disabled people what you're saying is we do not deserve tools that were created with intention to help us and which actually function reliably or at all.

I actually tend to look sideways at people who state “I work with disabled people” like it somehow vouches for them—and somehow overrides my professional experience being a disabled person. Because frankly, some of the most ableist people I have met “work with disabled people”.

I don’t know that person, but simply stating that one works in disability/accessibility services doesn’t automatically grant credibility as an ally or advocate. In the brief time I worked in a uni’s ADA office, I saw people who were very anti-ADA/accessibility.

yeah I lost my taste for someone I hung out with on occasion after college after he made fun of the vocalist for London Grammar for having a contralto voice. The depth to her voice is -part- of what I find so appealing about it. (IIRC, it turned out he was a sexist jerk anyway, no loss for me)

There's a huge bias against women with deep voices in the entertainment industry and it even gets it's claws into art programs in K-12. Both my choir teachers destroyed my love of singing because I'm a female tenor and they wanted me to be a high alto/soprano. Still working on getting over that.

Sometimes I feel like growing up with a disabled mom put me in a similar camp to people who grew up with queer/accepting parents who thus don't really relate to a lot of queer people because we don't share the suffering they went through and have thus made into a major feature of their identity.
