Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things. Here’s a blurb on what I mean:

AI has actively made life worse for literally everyone - tech is now more expensive - you cannot trust most media of reality anymore - programs barely function - energy prices - literal psychosis - your voice can be literally stolen for evil - more spyware but hey, you can avoid paying an artist.

2025 has been hard. a lot of artists I have followed for years, some of which have personally shaped my own art career, stopped posting all together. whether they entered indefinite hiatuses, retired from art-making to pursue more stable jobs, or disappeared without a trace : I hope they're well.

solution: ask artist to license existing artwork (that looks very similar in theme but WAY better) for one-time extremely limited use. Artist agrees. Artist gets paid, author gets non-AI, everybody is happy. YES you can do this!!! See something you really like from an artist? Ask to license it!
