I moved them out of the lab and put them in a more domestic setting inspired by Zootopia around 2015. I thought it would be a fun juxtaposition if Bart was a small, tidy geek while Rita was a big, stinky/crude sewer rat. Their personalities really came through after that, I think.

at this point I'm more a shapeshifter than anything, so have an orcabola/seborca, big tall goofy critter (4 meters) that will bump on everything because they're clumsy af and unaware of their size also they leave their shoes unlaced all the time because they don't care (they live dangerously o.o)
