Fun fact #3: The guitar cacophony at the end is a blend of two first-take guitar solos. My guitar is in the left channel, Devin Ocampo is in the right. The initial plan was to use one of the other, but when we pulled up the faders, we loved the sound of both together.

Fun fact #2: The song was inspired by a (scary) NYTimes interview with William Eggleston . In it, Eggleston talks very plainly about his acute alcoholism. I know I’m not famous, but I didn’t want to blindside Eggleston when the song came out. We sent it to his people in advance. No response.

Fun fact #1 about “The Damnedest Thing”: The melody uses all 12 notes in the western scale. I did not do this on purpose, but it felt good when we realized it.
