There are twenty-eight wastewater treatment plants in Mass. that treat >5M gallons of effluent per day. Only six of them produce RNG via anaerobic digestion. One of the six is the MWRA Deer Island treatment plant. The RNG offsets 97% of the plant’s thermal load, and produces 17% of it electricity.

Tortured by not one, but two regimes in a single lifetime.

I haven’t been able to find any info on the FY2025 budget for these facilities. Could they be alternatively funded? By whom?
