Banning online spaces leaves teenagers with nowhere to go. It's always take, take, take. They took away youth centres and physical spaces, and now they want the online spaces too. For some people, they will find more risky ways to access content, for others, they will be left with nowhere to be.

Imagine if we just: 1) fined companies that don’t have real people moderating content for harm 2) regulated the financial model around child influencers and family-focused content that centres kids 3) underwrote non-digital spaces for young people to enjoy and socialise in

As govt is going to ban social media for kids, then they should also: - invest in youth clubs and social spaces where young people are welcome - put some actual money into libraries - mandate that secondary schools supply offline learning resources - implement effective regulation

Also it's clear now the UK's response to the teething problems with the Australia ban was not "the whole concept was the problem," its response is "Australia isn't enforcing hard enough, so we'll nerd harder with compliance" which in this case means all users being facial scanned + IDs etc.

If I'd been banned from the online spaces I used to socialise as a teenager, my life would have been radically and immeasurably worse. Banning social media is a pathetic alternative to regulating it. Tech companies collecting yet more private data to 'enforce' a ban will be fucking disastrous.

Remember that the NHS told trans kids, who were currently on endocrine care, that they would be allowed to continue. Now it looks like they’re withdrawing that as well. The NHS is a danger to everyone in the trans community.

There is not a good time for forced medical detransition. But, young people were informed yesterday that decision letters would come today. Today is GCSE Maths exam. Tomorrow GCSE English lit exam. The NHS really could not care less for the well-being of these young people.

We all have the ability to make the world a better place, each in our own way. I think it's fair to say that Anthony Head knew this, recognised it, and did far more than most to live up to the opportunities his fame afforded him in order to put good into this world whenever and wherever he could.

I don't really talk about this, because I'm actually quite private about my personal life, but many many years ago Tony Head took me under his wing and showed me the kind of person I could be. It's not an exaggeration to say that I'm the person I am today because of the kindness he showed me.
