Found what appears to be my oldest game save on a physical memory card. From about 18 years ago! This is from The Simpsons: Hit and Run. On a GameCube memory card. I do probably have some N64 memory cards lying around... Hmmm.

The uv build backend is now stable, and considered ready for production use. An alternative to setuptools, hatchling, etc. for pure Python projects, with a focus on good defaults, user-friendly error messages, and performance. When used with uv, it's 10-35x faster.

Surprise surprise. Hugo has yet again started failing to build my web site with an unactionable error message. Happens about once per year. I don't stay aprised of Hugo development. I just want it to work. This has gotta be at least one of the reasons why people build their SSG.

Today, we’re announcing the preview release of ty, an extremely fast type checker and language server for Python, written in Rust. In early testing, it's 10x, 50x, even 100x faster than existing type checkers. (We've seen >600x speed-ups over Mypy in some real-world projects.)

Does anyone know of any good materials that explain, with examples, why `strftime` APIs are not good for formatting datetimes in a particular locale? (I have some guesses, but I'm looking for something more authoritative from an expert that I can point folks to.)

This week is the first time I used a rice cooker. Wow! I knew they existed before, but it just never really entered my awareness. In terms of convenience, it's like sous vide, but for rice. Total game changer in terms of time management for dinner prep.

it makes absolute intuitive sense that all your memory safety bugs would be uniformly distributed but if your codebase is like that it should be declared a superfund site and quarantined from the public because that means you have hundreds of ancient buffer overflows that never get fixed

What do people do to keep that checkout of rust-lang/rust up to date? I do `git pull --recurse`, but I feel like every time I go to update it, I either get a messed up working tree or errors like "error: The following untracked working tree files would be overwritten by merge."

Well, that's all she wrote. The UPS started it's incessant "battery is dead" beeping. I managed to log back in one more time to get the final stat before shutting it down. Managed 4.4 years of uptime with my old Intel mac mini in my home office.

I am trying to test some Rust code on Android (which I have no idea how to do), and someone help set me up with this Bazel thing to do it. I managed to get it to work. But now I want to test my changes to Jiff without publishing them. How do I do it? I think I need to replace `@crate_index//:jiff`.

Someone asked if Jiff could infer time zones from RFC 3339 timestamps (which only have offsets). You can't in general, but it turns out that you can in limited cases!
