Wakeham 64 moths of 29 species, with my first ever Striped Hawk-moth (Hyles livornica). A lot of interesting firsts as well, plus I'm getting confused with Common Quaker (Orthosia cerasi) and Vine's Rustic (Hoplodrina ambigua), if anyone can help.

Wakeham: It might not sound a lot, but last nights catch of 49 moths of 18 species, was the best I've had this year. However I'm stuck on this one below. Any thoughts. All taken in different light conditions, hence different colourations.π

Just wondering if anyone can help me ID these two micro moths caught over the past few days here in Wakeham. Not the best of photos, and #1 was the only shot I got before it disappeared. π

More Of The Same
Despite the outdoor temperature dropping to 6.0Β°C last night, there was a very slight uptake in the number of moths in the trap this morning...

Well they always say, expect the unexpected. And nearly standing on a Woodcock along Wakeham Railway cuttings @ 12:05 was just that. Within seconds of it realising I was next to it, it flew up and headed east over Glen Caravan Park. It was definitely worth the soaking!!

Snow Bunting in the East Cliff Quarries near Southwell per Mark Eggleton - best to walk down from the pumping station, turn right at the cliffs and it's 100m or so from there along the cliff top

Wakeham - A lot of escapees from the moth trap this morning when one of the sides lifted in the wind. Ended up with 45 moths of 21 species, including 2 firsts for me on Portland, a Wax Moth (Galleria mellonella) and a Four-spotted Footman (Lithosia quadra)

Iβve been trying a vis-mig spot just outside Weymouth recently. Portland it isnβt, but not too shabby this morning: 29 Swallow, 26 Sand Martin, 4 House Martin, 150 Mipit, 2 Red Kite plus a trickle of Goldfinch and Linnet. Everything staying low in the stiff NE wind.
