Like many other Iranian Americans, I spent much of yesterday glued to my phone. In the evening, however, I spontaneously volunteered to man a "bluegrass petting zoo" for a few hours at an opry in Kenmore, WA. It was delightful to see people of all ages interact with instruments for the first time.

Another year, another #Wintergrass! Last February, I was too shy to play with other musicians at this festival. This year, however, I formed a jam circle with other members of the Outlanders Progressive Bluegrass Social Club along with a few spontaneous recruits! It was really special.

I summoned the courage to attend my first bluegrass jam this week. I learned a lot and plan to return. The best part? There was a bluegrass dog! The woofs and boofs were quite musical.

This month of blues immersion is all about the big guns of Texas. I've been looking forward to this unit because it includes a bit of slide guitar, which I've never played! After a busy week, I finally made it to a local music store and picked up a slide to play around with tonight. It's cool.

I haven't finished it yet, but this is one of the best books I've read in a while. As someone who has struggled deeply with existential dread since the ripe old age of 9, it is also extremely relatable. And morbidly hilarious.

I'm officially on unit 2 of my blues immersion course! We've migrated from the Mississippi Delta to Chicago, where many great musicians made names for themselves. Today's playlist features two blues legends, Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters.

This is how it felt for me and others as we were coming up in tabletop games. I often thought of my industry peers and mentors as fellow classmates, upperclassmen, or alumni. Just like in school, it's important for us to help each other along and pave the way for future classes to learn and grow.
