One of the worst tendencies in the programming discourse is the insistence that it's impossible to successfully rewrite anything. Some code is just bad. Some code does need throwing away and starting over. If you think that will always result in more problems that sounds like a skill issue.

Once I started doing this, I got mad at all the LVs I had created previously with invisible socket state. This also has the benefit of returning the same data after a reload if you do it right. 🏆
