Claude/Other LLMs are so good at actually writing code, but very bad at designing systems. Coding well with an LLM is about knowing the how to push it in the right direction, which is not dissimilar to being a good technical lead.

One of the worst tendencies in the programming discourse is the insistence that it's impossible to successfully rewrite anything. Some code is just bad. Some code does need throwing away and starting over. If you think that will always result in more problems that sounds like a skill issue.
