#iTeachMath I see an “area problem”. Made a veggie tray for a Christmas party tonight. The tiny gaps of white are bothering me. The celery, red pepper and carrots are all rectangular and it’s a circular dish. 🙃🙃🙃 How can you best place the mini rectangles/veggies so they fill up the circular area?!

Updating my name at the RMV & SS (my husband & I chose to hyphenate) & it occurred to me that I didn't have a motor plan for writing their last name in script! So yesterday, I spent the entire 45 minute wait at the RMV practicing... and then their machine turned it into a scribble anyway!

you either need universal basic income for humans or you must limit the use of Gen AI in such a way that humans aren’t radically impoverished as a result. you cannot have both, both for morality reasons and also because this is the kind of thing that can result in globally-nightmarish conflict.

I tend to agree with this. If AI works like its cheerleaders claim/hope it will - replacing whole swathes of human labour - then they need a real economic plan for dealing with the consequences of that. This can only mean heavily redistributing the profits.

I’ve played with LLMs a fair amount and noticed something that these studies that show using LLMs degrading intellectual performance may not be picking up: What if having pretty good critical thinking skills makes LLMs less appealing/satisfying to use in the first place?
