I will support this mask ban as swiftly as possible. While local gov has limited tools / powers to address the federal government we must do everything we can with the tools we have. Requiring ICE to prove they're law enforcement when they snatch our neighbors off our streets is the bare minimum.

At a Community & Public Safety Committee mtg in Portland, a police commander asserts a proposed ordinance to ban masks & require ID for law enforcement would be nearly impossible to enforce. Police union prez says it needs to go thru union bargaining. Lots of ppl here w/ "No Secret Police" signs.

Breaking News Update: Two people were shot Thursday by federal officers operating in East Portland, according to the Portland Police Bureau. The victims were transported to a local hospital. It was not immediately clear their condition, police said in a release.

Another side note: I have been watching Portland City Council meetings regularly (all of them) for the last few months. Councilor Kanal is always incredibly thorough, thoughtful and fair, and his questions are often technical as well as philosophical. He would be my vote for Council President.

The Portland City Council voting has ended for the day without a president chosen for the next year. Many councilors were clearly frustrated in the final comments. Picking back up tomorrow.
