Excited to share I’ve received pilot funding through an R25 to study substance use among youth in the juvenile legal system. The JLS is a key referral source for adolescent substance use treatment, and we need to do a better job at getting youth engaged in services. Looking forward to sharing more!

An important point getting overlooked: When NIH cancels "diversity" grants (e.g., diversity supplements, Fs, Ks, etc), they aren't canceling the grants based on *what* the grant studies. They're cancelling them based on *who* is doing the research. And that disallowed "who" is anyone not white.

I fell through the mental health care gap 30 years ago, so changing this is now a big focus of my work. A massive systemic issue is basic lack of listening & believing people: dehumanising. Meaning is found in our human response to harm and power imbalance, and dialogic relationships reveal this.

🧵Masked ICE thugs attempted to abduct the school nurse at Cooke Elementary School, located in the densely populated Adams Morgan section of DC. Workers at the school intervened, demanding a warrant and holding up their phones and ICE scurried off without making their arrest.

To be even more clear, this will kill people. Even good science conducted with high integrity sometimes gets it wrong, and sometimes people die. Allow "science" with zero restrictions on political influence, openness, fidelity , or objectivity will absolutely kill people.

My federal grants with @wendymanning.bsky.social and Ann Meier were terminated last week. The language from the termination is below. It has been sad as we are being forced to say goodbye to members of our team. We are figuring out next steps. We remain deeply committed to studying all families.

Not to be a broken record, but AI critics who insist that AI "doesn't work" and is going to just disappear are misleading - that just isn't true, as controlled studies like this one show. There are many issues with AI & many things that need critique, but pretending it is going away is not helpful.
