How does the Trump administration's 2026 budget contradict the USDA's small farmers policy agenda? Taken together, these two documents lay bare the hypocrisy of this administration's approach to nutrition security and agriculture: death by a thousand funding cuts.

Good to see Tyson Foods commit to eliminating four harmful additives from some of their products this year! Additionally, we hope their elimination of HFCS will result in an overall reduction in added sugar in their products, which is the real issue. We'll be keeping tabs to hold Tyson accountable!

Big win in California! Last week, the #CAleg passed a bill requiring chain restaurants that sell kids' meals to have at least one meal combo that meets expert nutrition standards. Restaurant meals are consistently high in cals, sodium, & sat fat, and now families will have healthier options.

New research brief out today from Healthy Eating Research (with CSPI co-authorship!) on the historical context of SNAP purchase restrictions, participant perceptions, and the effects on purchasing and diet quality. Very timely as RFK Jr's MAHA report calls for implementing/expanding restrictions.

Good news from Chicago! Last Thursday, Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order that established nutrition standards for foods and beverages sold or served on city-owned property and requires all city agencies to meet the nutrition standards within one year.

In 2020, the Berkeley, California city council approved the nation's first healthy checkout policy, requiring grocery stores to offer more nutritious foods and beverages at checkout. Now, a new study is out examining the effects of this policy - and the results are surprising. 👇

UPDATE: More shrimp recalled for possible radiation contamination! Now, Southwind Foods, the parent brand of Sand Bar, Best Yet, First Street, Great American, and Arctic Shores brand shrimp products, is conducting a voluntary recall of frozen raw and cooked shrimp for potential contamination.

Before RFK Jr. fired an entire CDC vaccine advisory panel citing industry influence, conflicts of interest had been at a historic low according to a new study from the USC Schaeffer Center.

Radioactive shrimp?? The FDA is recommending a retailer recall of certain frozen raw shrimp products processed by an Indonesian supplier that appear to have been "prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions" that potentially caused contamination with a radioactive isotope.

Over the past six months, Trump’s health officials have been endorsing "alternative facts" in science to impose policies that contradict modern medical knowledge. But it is an undeniable fact that vaccines have been miraculous in preventing terrible diseases from polio to tetanus to measles.

The MAHA strategy report has been leaked, and like its AI-assisted predecessor, it embodies much of the idiosyncratic beliefs of one person: RFK, Jr. The report’s recommendations - altering our vaccine framework, promoting meat and whole milk - are going to promote disease, not health.

🚨FDA Alert! The FDA just issued a warning about some types of imported cookware products made from aluminum, brass, and aluminum alloys known as Hindalium/Hindolium or Indalium/Indolium that have been found to leach lead into food when used for cooking.

Stay away from raw milk! Buying pasteurized milk and dairy products is still the only reliable way to avoid the risk of foodborne illness like what happened here.

Brominated vegetable oil is finally off store shelves! Companies had until this past Saturday, Aug 2, 2025 to reformulate, relabel, and sell off any products that still had BVO after the FDA finalized a federal ban last summer. We're glad to see this harmful additive taken out of the food supply!
